Why Room Placement Matters in Vastu

In Vastu Shastra, each direction is governed by specific elements and deities that influence particular life aspects. When rooms are placed in their ideal directions, the natural energies support the activities performed there. Wrong placement can create obstacles, health issues, or relationship problems.

The key principle is simple: match the room's function with the direction's energy. For example, the kitchen involves fire, so it belongs in the Southeast (Agni corner). The bedroom needs calm energy, so Southwest (stability zone) is ideal for the master bedroom.

🚪 Main Entrance (Dwara)

The main entrance is the "mouth" of your home through which energy enters. Its placement is crucial for the entire household's well-being.

Best Directions for Main Entrance

• North (Uttara): Excellent for wealth and opportunities – ruled by Kubera
• East (Purva): Best for health, fame, and social status – ruled by Indra
• Northeast (Ishanya): Highly auspicious for spiritual growth and prosperity

Directions to Avoid

• South: Can bring legal troubles and conflicts (some exceptions apply)
• Southwest: May cause instability and financial problems

🛋️ Living Room (Drawing Room)

The living room is where family gathers and guests are welcomed. It should radiate warmth and positive social energy.

Ideal Location

• Best: North, East, or Northeast
• Good: Northwest for social activities

Furniture Arrangement

• Place heavy furniture (sofa) in South or West direction
• The head of the family should face East or North while sitting
• Keep the center of the living room open or light
• TV and electronics should be in Southeast
• Avoid sitting with back towards the main entrance

Decor Tips

• Hang positive artwork—avoid war scenes or sad images
• Use light, warm colors (cream, light yellow, light green)
• Place indoor plants in East or North

🛏️ Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is the stability center of the home, representing the heads of the household. Its proper placement ensures authority, health, and marital harmony.

• Best: Southwest corner – represents stability and grounding

• Avoid: Northeast (meant for prayer/pooja room)

Bed Placement

• Place the bed in the Southwest portion of the room
• Head should point South or East while sleeping
• Never sleep with head pointing North – disrupts blood circulation
• Avoid placing bed directly under a beam
• Keep some gap between bed and wall

🔥 Kitchen (Rasoi)

The kitchen represents the Fire element (Agni) and directly impacts health, nourishment, and prosperity of the family.

• Best: Southeast corner – Agni (Fire) direction
• Good: Northwest (secondary option)
• Avoid: Northeast (sacred corner), Southwest (stability zone)

Cooking Position

• Cook should face East while cooking – enhances health
• Gas stove/cooking range in Southeast corner
• Keep stove away from the wall (slight gap)
• Stove and sink should NOT be adjacent (fire-water conflict)

Storage and Appliances

• Refrigerator in Southwest, South, or West (avoid Northeast)

• Storage in South or West cabinets
• Microwave/oven in Southeast

🚿 Bathroom & Toilet

Bathrooms represent waste elimination and should be placed where they don't contaminate positive energy zones.

• Avoid: South, Southwest, under staircase, bedroom

Idol Placement

• Idols should face West or South (so you face East/North while praying)
• Keep idols at least 6-9 inches from wall
• Don't place idols facing each other
• Avoid broken or damaged idols

Pooja Room Rules

• Keep the space clean and clutter-free
• Light a lamp (diya) daily in the morning and evening
• Ensure good ventilation and natural light
• Don't store non-religious items here

📚 Study Room / Home Office

The study room should promote concentration, learning, and intellectual growth.

Ideal Location

• Best: Northeast, North, or East
• Good: West

Desk Placement

• Study facing East or North for better concentration
• Avoid sitting with back towards door
• Keep solid wall behind for support
• Books on East or North walls

Children's Study

• Children should study in Northeast or North room
